North East Open Studios 2019
This year I'm taking part in the annual North East Open Studios (NEOS) where all different types of creative people across the north east of Scotland open their doors to the public in the 3rd week of September.
I will be exhibiting in the Garioch Heritage Centre in Inverurie, sharing the space with two others - Judith Glennie and Pam Wolfe. The Garioch Heritage Centre will be open between 10.00 and 16.00 from Tuesday 17th to Sunday 22nd September. It's a fantastic venue in the centre of Inverurie in the old Loco works estate next to Aldi and has The Works cafe open through the day.
I'll have a range of my original artwork to view and signed limited edition prints to buy, along with a selection of gifts including coasters, placemats and tea towels. During the week I'll also be working on some new paintings, so you'll get to see how my work is created.
North East Open Studios was established in 2003 by a group of artists, designers and makers to create a network for Makers and showcase the huge amount of talent in the North East to the public. An artist directory book is also produced each year and distributed through various shops, cafes and public outlets. This book has a section for every maker that is taking part, their location and opening times, and a short description of what they do. I am No. 150 if you want to find me in the book!
This is my second year taking part, last year I applied through a young person bursary in celebration of the 2018 Year of Young People, and was mentored by one of the founding members Susie Hunt. I shared a space in her studio and learned a lot about the artist community in Aberdeenshire! This year will be my first year out on my own, so it should be a great experience and opportunity to learn even more.
Hope to see you there!
